Sustainable Mirrors: How We Manufacture and Package Responsibly
More and more people want to know what goes into a product. Not just how it looks on the wall, but also how it’s made, what materials it contains, and how it gets to your home. That’s a logical question—and at Nordic Style, it’s one we take seriously. For us, sustainability isn’t just a marketing term tacked on as an afterthought. It’s embedded in the choices we make in the design, material selection, and packaging of every mirror we deliver.
Our Philosophy
Why Sustainability Is Central to Nordic Style
Scandinavian design has traditionally been synonymous with respect for nature and materials. In the Nordic tradition, the idea is to use only what you need and to treat what you have with care. That philosophy is reflected in every mirror we design. We consciously choose materials that last—not only in terms of style but also in terms of quality. A mirror that remains beautiful for ten years is more sustainable than one you replace after three years.
That also means we deliberately avoid discount promotions or sales. Fixed, fair prices are part of how we view our craft: quality deserves a fair price, and a fair price doesn’t encourage impulse purchases you’ll later regret. In this way, our pricing policy also contributes to a more mindful approach to shopping.

FSC-certified
Wood from responsibly managed forests
A large portion of our collection is available with a wooden frame. For these, we use only FSC-certified wood, which means the wood comes from responsibly managed forests. For every tree that is cut down, another is planted.
- Solid oak for the Oak variants, such as Finn Oak, Maj , and Lara Oak. Oak is hard, durable, and has a timeless look. The ultra-matte finish protects the wood without obscuring its natural grain.
- FSC-certified pine for the Wood variants, such as the Nea Wood, Hanna Wood, and Ivar Wood. Pine is lighter in color and complements the airy Scandinavian aesthetic well. In the walnut variant, the same pine takes on a warmer, darker hue.
The backing boards of our framed mirrors are also made of FSC-certified wood. It’s not something you can see, but it does contribute to the sturdiness and durability of the mirror as a whole.

Aluminum frames
Lightweight, durable, and moisture-resistant
In addition to wood, we use brushed aluminum for the frames of many models in our collection. Aluminum is an exceptionally durable material: it is lightweight, rust-proof, and moisture-resistant, making aluminum frames suitable for use in the bathroom as well.
The aluminum frames are available in four colors:
- Black
- Matte white
- Greige — our own blend of gray and beige, which fits effortlessly into Scandinavian and minimalist interiors
- Soft Gold
The brushed finish gives the frame a subtle texture that adds a bit more depth to the material than a smooth surface would. That detail is what sets apart a mirror that just looks neat from one that looks truly great.

Quality from the Inside Out
High-quality mirror glass with safety film
We work exclusively with HD silver-mirrored glass, which provides a crystal-clear and true-to-life reflection without distortion. The standard glass thickness is 4 mm; for larger models, we use 5 or 6 mm glass to prevent sagging or distortion.
All mirrors are equipped with explosion-proof safety film on the back. This film holds the glass together in the unlikely event of an accident, preventing shards from falling onto the floor. The frameless mirrors have the same film applied to the back as a strong adhesive film. Both methods fall under the category of safety glass.

Packaging and Shipping
Protection Without Waste
A mirror is a fragile product. This places certain demands on the packaging, but it doesn’t justify using an excessive amount of material. We consciously strive to strike a balance: enough protection to ensure the mirror arrives safely at your home, without unnecessary waste.
99.8% of all mirrors are delivered undamaged. This is made possible in part because we work with a specialized carrier that has experience transporting fragile items.
In the rare event that something does go wrong, we’ll replace the mirror. The carrier will deliver the new mirror and take the damaged one back at the same time. As a customer, you don’t have to make any additional arrangements.

Timeless design
The most sustainable mirror is one you never replace
The most sustainable mirror is the one you don’t replace after a few years because it no longer matches your interior. Our collections are designed with serene simplicity in mind: shapes and colors that will look just as good in ten years as they do today. No fads, no exaggerated shapes that will feel dated in two years.
This is reflected in collections such as the round mirrors of the Nea collection, the organic shapes of the Hanna collection, and the slender arch shape of the Maj. These are mirrors that need no explanation—they don’t scream for attention, yet they always stand out. It is precisely this understated quality that makes them timeless.

Business Projects
Sustainable mirrors for hotels, studios, and offices
Sustainability is also becoming an increasingly important criterion for business customers. Hotels, yoga studios, wellness centers, and offices want to know what they’re installing. FSC-certified wood and high-quality, long-lasting glass align well with the sustainability goals that many organizations set for themselves.
For larger projects, we actively collaborate with you on material selection and logistics. Frameless mirrors can be custom-ordered in quantities of five or more, based on a quote from our Dutch manufacturer. This allows you to combine custom work with local production, which reduces transportation distances.

Maintenance
Cleaning That Costs Less and Uses Less
Keeping a durable mirror clean doesn't have to cost much. We recommend cleaning the glass with a dry viscose cloth, using a mixture of water, cleaning vinegar, and a drop of dish soap if necessary. Avoid harsh sprays and chemicals that can damage the coating.
For those who want a little more convenience, we offer the Nordic Style mirror glass cleaner. It’s specially formulated to leave mirror glass streak-free and is applied directly to the glass, not the frame. To care for wooden frames, simply dust them regularly with a dry cloth. That’s all you need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything About Sustainable Mirrors
Do you have a question about our materials, packaging, or sustainability approach? Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions.
All of Nordic Style's wooden mirrors are made from FSC-certified wood. This means that the wood comes from responsibly managed forests, where a new tree is planted for every tree that is cut down.
We work with two types of wood:
- Solid oak for the Oak variants (such as Finn Oak, Maj Oak, and Lara Oak)
- FSC-certified pine for the Wood variants (such as Nea Wood, Hanna Wood, and Ivar Wood). Pine is also available in a walnut finish with a warmer, darker shade.
Brushed aluminum is a rust-proof and moisture-resistant material that is exceptionally durable. This makes the frames suitable for use in the bathroom, where many other materials are less resistant to moisture.
Each mirror is carefully packed in sturdy packaging and delivered by a specialized carrier with experience in transporting fragile items. Thanks to this combination , 99.8% of all mirrors are delivered undamaged.
Yes. All mirrors are equipped with explosion-proof safety film on the back. If the glass does break, the film holds the shards together so that no dangerous situation arises.
Aluminum and frameless mirrors are moisture-resistant and therefore suitable for the bathroom. We do not recommend wooden mirrors for damp areas, as wood is not suitable for such environments. Check out our selection of bathroom mirrors for suitable options.
Yes, but only for frameless mirrors. Custom orders are available for quantities of five or more, based on a quote from our Dutch manufacturer. For wooden mirrors, only standard sizes are available.
Dust the frame regularly with a dry cloth. Do not use harsh cleaning products or wet cloths on the wood. Clean the glass with a dry viscose cloth, using water and a little cleaning vinegar if necessary.
